We are often asked to provide an SSO service, we would like to share with you a little bit of information about what it is and how it works.
SSO (Single Sign-On) sometimes referred to as Punchout is a method by which a buyer can purchase products from a supplier’s website via the buyers own procurement application. The process usually involves the buyer clicking a link in their procurement application that takes them to the supplier’s website. Here they can browse a catalogue of products and add them to a basket. Upon checkout, the basket details are returned from the supplier’s website to the buyer’s procurement application thus generating a purchase order. The buyer can then follow their usual process to approve the purchase order.
1.1 SSO workflow
There are several different SSO methods available. The type required will depend on the buyer’s procurement application. The popular types are listed below:
- SAP SRM
- cXML (Ariba)
- Oracle XML
- OAuth (Open Authorisation)
- SAML (Security Assertion Mark-up Language)
